Con su muerte se perdi\u00f3 la reliquia que llevaba al cuello, dentro de un cofrecito. Dicha p\u00e9rdida fue una m\u00e1cula para la cruzada y el rey Alfonso XI de Castilla dispuso que el relicario se recuperase al precio que fuese. Esa decisi\u00f3n arrastr\u00f3 por igual pero de distintas formas a personajes muy dispares: desde John Glendonning, escudero de sir James que no pudo estar junto a su se\u00f1or el d\u00eda del combate, a Mar\u00eda Henr\u00edquez, hija del maestro Gamboa, al que el rey culpaba en parte de esa p\u00e9rdida. Le\u00f3n Arsenal novela con su habitual maestr\u00eda un hecho real acaecido en el pueblo de Teba.
