Desde Darwin fue el primer libro que el a\u00f1orado Stephen Jay Gould (1941-2002) public\u00f3 reuniendo algunos de los ensayos que escrib\u00eda para su columna mensual del Natural History Magazine. Apareci\u00f3 en 1977 y fue la obra que le lanz\u00f3 a una fama mundial que ya nunca abandonar\u00eda. No es un libro m\u00e1s de los muchos que escribi\u00f3 el gran paleont\u00f3logo y bi\u00f3logo evolutivo de Harvard, sino uno en el que el hilo conductor son sus dos grandes amores: Darwin y su teor\u00eda de la evoluci\u00f3n. As\u00ed, el primer grupo de art\u00edculos explora la propia teor\u00eda de Darwin, deteni\u00e9ndose en cuestiones como \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 esper\u00f3 veinti\u00fan a\u00f1os antes de publicar su teor\u00eda? La aplicaci\u00f3n del darwinismo a la evoluci\u00f3n humana, incluyendo qu\u00e9 nos separa y qu\u00e9 nos une con las dem\u00e1s criaturas que pueblan la Tierra, es el tema de los dos siguientes grupos de trabajos, mientras que el cuarto estudia los esquemas de la historia de la vida, caracterizada seg\u00fan Gould no por la continuidad que supon\u00eda Darwin, sino por un mundo puntuado de extinciones masivas y r\u00e1pidos or\u00edgenes entre largas etapas de relativa tranquilidad.
