Y lo hace de una manera acuciante, poderosa. La enfermedad \u2014la tuberculosis en el relato\u2014 que se apodera de un ser humano, rebaj\u00e1ndole y a veces aniquil\u00e1ndole las posibilidades vitales. Pero no es la enfermedad en s\u00ed misma lo que da sentido a esta novela sino el anhelo del propio vivir, anhelo que est\u00e1 en la base misma del sentimiento amoroso. Pocas veces la literatura espa\u00f1ola ha sabido presentarnos un tema semejante con tanta veracidad.
