Heberto Padilla, fue uno de los j\u00f3venes que acudieron desde el exterior del pa\u00eds para prestar su apoyo y colaboraci\u00f3n al nuevo r\u00e9gimen, so\u00f1ando con un Estado humano, democr\u00e1tico y con un brillante futuro, por costoso que resultase conseguirlo. A partir de ese momento, Padilla, poeta, intelectual comprometido, conocer\u00eda las vicisitudes propias de todo hombre de pensamiento en un proceso en que la acci\u00f3n y la \u00abraz\u00f3n de Estado\u00bb delimitan la frontera de las libertades. En Cuba, en plena \u00abDictadura del Proletariado\u00bb, y con las mismas caracter\u00edsticas en cuanto a m\u00e9todos e intransigencias que las de la URSS durante el estalinismo. Padilla, fue el primero que pas\u00f3 por el calvario de acusaciones, torturas y marginaci\u00f3n con que el r\u00e9gimen castrista castiga a los desafectos. Este libro es, en definitiva, un vivo reflejo de la Historia de ese apasionante pa\u00eds que es Cuba.
