V. Struve constituye un caso muy espec\u00edfico dentro del grupo de estudiosos y tratadistas de temas cl\u00e1sicos. Su origen ruso le aparta de las escuelas europeas tradicionales, la brit\u00e1nica y la alemana sobre todo. En efecto, Struve se mantiene muy alejado de los planteamientos que han informado a ambas escuelas de estudios cl\u00e1sicos, que encontraban en la interpretaci\u00f3n de restos arqueol\u00f3gicos o en la transcripci\u00f3n de documentos hallados la clave de sus conclusiones acerca de los per\u00edodos tratados. El autor de la obra que a continuaci\u00f3n se incluye en este volumen presta, por el contrario, gran atenci\u00f3n a otras claves que desde su punto de vista ofrecen posibilidades de interpretaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s amplias y, sobre todo, m\u00e1s acordes con el inter\u00e9s manifestado hacia la civilizaci\u00f3n denominada griega. La aplicaci\u00f3n de los principios marxistas de interpretaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica ofrece en la obra de Struve una rica gama de posibilidades de observaci\u00f3n de un fen\u00f3meno del calibre alcanzado por la que se gener\u00f3 en las orillas del mar Egeo.
