Obra indispensable para acercarse a la figura del autor de las Confesiones. \u00c9ste era en esa \u00e9poca la superestrella de Cartago, como orador, fil\u00f3sofo y personaje p\u00fablico. Brillante y discutidor, pensaba libremente y viv\u00eda libremente con una amante a la que estaba apasionadamente apegado. Su madre, M\u00f3nica, le predicaba la caridad cristiana, pero Agust\u00edn se sent\u00eda atra\u00eddo por las ense\u00f1anzas de los maniqueos.
