En el primer viaje no hab\u00eda conseguido asistir a la ceremonia de la circuncisi\u00f3n de los j\u00f3venes doowayo, un rito de pase fundamental para la cultura de esta tribu, y que s\u00f3lo se celebra cada seis o siete a\u00f1os, y ahora vuelve para presenciar &#8211; y estudiar &#8211; la ceremonia. Armado con pasteles de Navidad y un muy ingl\u00e9s queso Cheddar, Barley &#8211; afortunadamente para el lector &#8211; se encontr\u00f3 desde el primer momento con dificultades inesperadas. Despu\u00e9s mientras esperaba en la aldea que le confirmaran la tan anhelada fecha de la circuncisi\u00f3n, llegaron a sus o\u00eddos rumores sobre otra ignota tribu, los ninga, cuyos hombres, al parecer, practicaban otra mutilaci\u00f3n ritual, esta vez de los pezones.
