Se trata de la bibliograf\u00eda para su trabajo de habilitaci\u00f3n sobre los campos de concentraci\u00f3n de Buchenwald, que hace ya tiempo que deber\u00eda estar entregado.Este solitario profesor, cuyas clases est\u00e1n sin embargo abarrotadas, est\u00e1 agobiado a partes iguales por las disputas entre historiadores, los enamoramientos plat\u00f3nicos de sus alumnas y su artritis, y ha perdido toda fe en s\u00ed mismo. Aparece entonces Ossi Winter, un antiguo compa\u00f1ero de estudios, amigo de los viejos tiempos contestatarios y comisario de polic\u00eda en Hamburgo. Hace tres a\u00f1os que se ocupa de una serie de asesinatos: Primero encontraron el cad\u00e1ver de la esposa de Maximilian Holler, un importante agente inmobiliario de Hamburgo. Un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s su hijo fue envenenado en la piscina con ars\u00e9nico y ahora han utilizado el mismo procedimiento para matar a su hija. Holler, seg\u00fan indica Winter, no est\u00e1 siendo extorsionado, y tampoco conoce a nadie a quien haya perjudicado en su vida profesional. \u00bfQui\u00e9n ha acabado entonces con la vida de su esposa y sus dos hijos?
