En este libro Cerrato nos conduce por los a\u00f1os en los que la ciudad de C\u00e1diz fue el punto de encuentro de casi todas las culturas europeas en su camino al Nuevo Mundo. Celestino Mutis, gaditano, llev\u00f3 al Reino de la Nueva Granada la m\u00e1s avanzada ciencia de aquellos a\u00f1os. As\u00ed fue reconocido por los m\u00e1s importantes cient\u00edficos europeos como Linneo, Humboldt y otros. Las miras de Mutis no eran las aventuras. Su af\u00e1n fue poner al descubierto los tesoros que la naturaleza americana encerraba, y hacer que los habitantes de aquellos pueblos se formaran en su conocimiento para poder disfrutar de los beneficios que esta le podr\u00eda proporcionar al margen de los codiciados metales preciosos. Mutis, a diferencia de otros expedicionarios, siempre que le fue posible se rode\u00f3 de los nativos, imparti\u00e9ndoles sus diversos conocimientos en todos los campos cient\u00edficos: filosof\u00eda, bot\u00e1nica, mineralog\u00eda, astrolog\u00eda, farmacopea, medicina, matem\u00e1tica, etc. Esta labor se tradujo en que a su muerte, ocurrida en 1808, el Nuevo Reino de Granada contara con una plantilla de hombres debidamente formados para asumir el reto de su independencia, entre los que destacan Nari\u00f1o, Caldas, Zea, Matis, etc. Este libro es un nexo de uni\u00f3n entre los hombres de ambas orillas del Atl\u00e1ntico, y aporta una nueva visi\u00f3n muy distinta a los que piensan que la conquista espa\u00f1ola fue solo un ejercicio de rapi\u00f1a.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
